Profusely carved 4 part backsplat with central, newly restored, Bergere back support. The backsplats are profusely carved with Cherubs, Birds of Paradise, Grapes and Vines, all rising from a Pineapple Jardiniere. The lower rail of the backrest features winged Cherubs supporting a Pineapple Jardiniere with mixed flowers.
The Carolean Top Rail also features 4 Cherubs, amid Acanthus leaves, supporting a Crowned Kings Head. The lower Carolean stretcher matches this but in a more developed design. The fronts of the Serpentine legs and armrest supports are also carved with foliate designs, and the frame of the seat is profusely carved with interwoven Acanthus leaves. The seat is in a period and unrestored Bergere and in fine condition, and the fixing nails are all period. The chair comes with a Period cushion, as in photos. Cushion a/f and needs restoration. The Front side is in a classic earl century multi-colour Jacquard weave, the back side is in a satinised foliate Jacquard weave. The cushion has cropped corners to fit between the uprights, and has period rope ties with large tassles. One tassle is missing, another is loose but still in situ. It has a tassled fringe all around and I think the stuffing is Horse Hair. Size is 134 tall xx 60 wide x 45 deep x 45 seat height cms. The weight is Volumetric, so, Overseas buyers please request a quote to your destination. The condition is very good. Minor imperfections related to age and period of manufacture and use.
